About
the Stones:
| Dumortierite Treatment: None Shades of denim blue, from stone-washed to deep indigo, make this variety of quartz a natural for the casual look. Used in bracelets #707v #790 # 791x #797 #799 Return to list |
| Jasper Treatment: None Jasper is a type of quartz (chalcedony), hard and durable, and richly colored by minerals, such as iron oxide. There are many varieties of jasper, and each has a unique look. Leopard jasper is prized for it's "jungle" spots and patches of color that include cream, tan, rust, ochre yellow, olive green, brown and black. Used in bracelet #711 Picture jasper offers beads in earthy shades of cream, rust, chocolate brown, black and gray, and some with the characteristic "scenic landscape" patterns that gave this jasper its name. Used in bracelets #714 #733 #790 Pineapple jasper provides creamy shades of yellow to gold. Used in bracelet #711 Red jasper is a deep rich clay red color. Used in

| Malachite Treatment: None Malachite, a copper mineral, provides rich green shades, often with a characteristic banding pattern. Used in bracelet #742 Return to list |
| Obsidian,
Snowflake Treatment: None Obsidian is a black volcanic glass formed by the rapid cooling of lava. In prehistoric times, it was often shaped into arrowheads and cutting tools. The snowflake variety is named for its grayish-white inclusions that resemble snowflakes. Used in bracelets #712 #712X #733 Return to list |
| Onyx, Black Treatment: Dyed Onyx, an opaque form of quartz (chalcedony), is a long standing favorite for jewelry. It is hard and polishes well. Although it occurs naturally in black, it is generally dyed to produce a more uniform color. Used as accent beads in #711 #712 #712X #733 Return to list |
| Rhodonite Treatment: None Like the rose for which it is named, rhodonite ranges from light to deep pink, often streaked with darker shades. Composed of silicates of manganese, iron, magnesium and calcium, it runs from transparent to opaque and may have inclusions of black manganese. Used in bracelets #707v #707vxt #707V Return to list |
| Turquoise,
Natural (NT) Treatment: None Turquoise occurs naturally in many shades of blue and green. Blue shades result from the presence of copper, and iron is usually responsible for the green tones. Inclusions of matrix (the rock in which the turquoise formed) sometimes add distinctive patches and veining patterns. Return to list |
| Turquoise,
Stabilized (ST) Treatment: Stabilized Turquoise that is too fragile in its natural state to be cut, polished and subjected to the demands of every day wear, can be successfully stabilized with resins to make it harder, darker and less brittle. If done properly, the results are quite satisfactory. Return to list |
